The Tee off FORE Troops Golf tournament will feature an 18 hole shot gun start, best ball golf outing at the Friends of American Lake Veterans Golf Course on Memorial Day, May 29, 2017. The course was initially built after World War II, when the American Lake Veterans Hospital decided that it would add a 9-hole golf course to its grounds to benefit the soldiers recovering in their facility. Over time, Friends of American Lake funded a covered driving range, a covered pavilion for veterans’ events, larger tee boxes, handicapped accessible bunkers and greens, and specialized golf carts that allow mobility-impaired golfers to play. Most recently, The Friends of American Lake partnered with golf legend and renowned golf architect Jack Nicklaus, who donated his time and skill designing a much needed additional 9 holes to complete the 18-hole course. This event is a very rare opportunity for non-veterans to play the Nicklaus Nine, as it is a veterans only course. It is a 5,176 yard course with a rating of 63.4(men)/68.0(women) and a slope of 97(men)/108(women).
